Messier 63, better known as the Sunflower Galaxy. Located in the constellation Canes Venatici, this beautiful spiral galaxy lies roughly 27 million light-years away from Earth. For this image, I captured 565 exposures of 20 seconds each, giving a total integration time of about 3 hours and 8 minutes. Each individual frame collected only a tiny amount of light, but when stacked together, they slowly revealed the delicate structure of this distant galaxy. M63 gets its nickname from its fragmented spiral arms, which almost look like the glowing petals of a cosmic sunflower. The bluish regions reveal younger, massive stars, while the brighter central core is dominated by older stellar populations. What we see here is not just a faint smudge in the night sky. It is an entire island of stars, containing billions of suns, suspended in the vast darkness between galaxies. The light captured in this image began its journey millions of years before it reached my telescope. A sunflower made of starlight, blooming quietly in the depths of space.
