M37

Le joyau stellaire du Cocher M37 est l’un des plus riches amas ouverts visibles depuis l’hémisphère nord. Situé dans la constellation du Cocher, à environ 4 500 années-lumière, il rassemble plusieurs centaines d’étoiles liées par une origine commune. Son âge, estimé à 300 à 400 millions d’années, en fait un amas relativement mature à l’échelle galactique. Contrairement aux amas plus jeunes et diffus, M37 se distingue par une forte concentration stellaire et par la présence marquée d’étoiles géantes rouges, signes d’une évolution avancée de certaines de ses composantes. Cette diversité stellaire en fait un laboratoire naturel fascinant pour l’étude de l’évolution des étoiles de masse intermédiaire. (English)The stellar jewel of Auriga M37 is one of the richest open clusters visible from the northern hemisphere. Located in the constellation Auriga, at a distance of approximately 4,500 light-years, it contains several hundred stars sharing a common origin. With an estimated age of 300 to 400 million years, M37 is considered a relatively mature open cluster. Unlike younger and looser clusters, M37 stands out due to its high stellar density and the notable presence of red giant stars, clear indicators of advanced stellar evolution among part of its population. This diversity makes M37 a remarkable natural laboratory for studying the life cycle of intermediate-mass stars.
