IC434 · The Horsehead Nebula

IC 434 is a large emission nebula located in the constellation Orion, about 1,400 light-years from Earth. It forms the glowing red background against which the famous Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) appears as a dark silhouette. This region is part of the Orion molecular cloud complex, one of the most active star-forming regions in our galactic neighborhood.
